Art and PHOTOGRAPHY
Welcome to our Art and Photography Department
This is a lively and exciting department run by the Curriculum Manager Linda Tucker and includes specialist teachers Lucy McKnight, Kelly Penfold and technician Angela Clarke.
There are three specialist-teaching rooms, a kiln, a dark room and Studio Space used by the A Level students. The Schemes of Work are designed to build on the student’s prior learning and introduces them to new techniques, such as ceramics, graffiti, 3D construction, printing, painting and drawing skills. Taking risks and finding out the best materials to use for ideas is the basis for development and investigation, as well as sharing thoughts and opinions with each other. All pupils are encouraged to develop their work in relation to research into other artist's work and use sketchbooks and cameras to record images and ideas. GCSE and GCE students go to London and local art galleries, such as Margate, to visit the art galleries and attend workshops.
Students frequently enter competitions and take part in local art events. The exam board have commented on the exemplary end of year show of the Students work. We are proud of the standard of the students work and many continue their art studies into Higher and Further Education and have entered highly successful careers in the arts. We are lucky that many of our students return to St. Anselm’s to talk about their work and to run workshops. Practicing artists are an important part of the creative experience for students.
