Curriculum Intent statement

GCSE and A-Level

The aims and objectives of this qualification as outlined by the exam board are to enable students to:

  • know and understand business concepts, business terminology, business objectives, the integrated nature of business activity and the impact of business on individuals and wider society
  • apply knowledge and understanding to contemporary business issues and to different types and sizes of businesses in local, national and global contexts
  • develop as enterprising individuals with the ability to think commercially and creatively to demonstrate business acumen, and draw on evidence to make informed business decisions and solve business problems
  • develop as effective and independent students, and as critical and reflective thinkers with enquiring minds
  • use an enquiring, critical approach to make informed judgments
  • investigate and analyse real business opportunities and issues to construct well-argued, well-evidenced, balanced and structured arguments, demonstrating their depth and breadth of understanding of business
  • develop and apply quantitative skills relevant to business, including using and interpreting data.

BTEC

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Business is an Applied General qualification. It is for post-16 learners who want to continue their education through applied learning and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment in the business sector.

The BTEC Level 3 Business programme covers:

  • Business environments
  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • Human Resources

The qualification will support entry to many higher education courses as well as progression into employment or an apprenticeship.

Business Studies allows students the opportunity to explore the dynamic world of business. Through the option of  GCSE,  A level and Level 3 BTEC we have a course to suit every type of learner. 

Our curriculum is chosen to support our students in their future careers whether in business or not.


Business Studies allows students to gain transferable skills which will help to develop a broad knowledge and understanding of business operations, marketing, finance, external influences and technology in business. 


Through studying Business, students learn skills that are invaluable to them in the future.
