Stein

Patron Saint of Europe

House Colour: Purple

Head of House: Mrs H Holmes

House Manager: Miss H Manwaring

House Admin: Mrs C Newell

House Office Location: More Block, 1st Floor

Feast Day: 9 August

Saint Edith Stein was also known as St Teresa Benedicta of the Cross. She was born on Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. At the age of thirteen she became an atheist because she felt that there were too few authentic believers.
While at college her atheism began to collapse. Her study of philosophy and the conversion of her friends to Christianity caused her to seriously consider its claim. She was baptised the following January.
She entered a Carmelite convent in Cologne and took the name ‘Sister Teresa Benedicta a Cruce’ meaning blessed by the Cross.
Stein gives us an example of a life lived in a sincere search for the truth. She also teaches us to fall in love with the cross as a means of salvation and that we remain faithful until the end.

Prayer: Saint Edith Stein, holy martyr, philosopher of the truth, defender of the human person against evils of this age, enlighten our minds, light up our hearts, fill our lives with the passion of your love for the Cross. Amen.
